We run 2 successful programs here at Starlets. One is our competition program, that has a very strict attendance and commitment, and 5-7 competitions each year depending on what level team your make. We hold try outs annually on the second weekend in December each year. We place athletes into teams according to their age and ability, and offer a range of different competition teams every year. There are 2 main components to competition cheerleading- Cheer and Dance. With in these 2 categories there is a range of disciplines and teams available to suit all our athletes.
- Cheerleading – level 1 to 6 / Group & Partner Stunt
Each year at try outs we create Cheerleading teams for ages 5-35. Teams are formed based on the USASF ages and levels. There is usually 12-32 athletes in each team, there is no experience necessary to try out for a competition team, we have a team to suit everyones age and ability each year. We also offer group and partner stunt. These classes are for elite and experienced athletes. Group Stunts are made up of 4-5 athletes and Partner stunt is for one male base and one female flyer. Their competitions dates are the same as the cheer teams, however they do have an extra training session each week, and will have a higher registration cost due to competing more than once at each event.
- Pom Dance / Dance Duos
Each year at try outs we assess athletes on their dance technique to form Pom teams based on age and ability. Teams are formed based on the USASF ages. There is usually 10-20 athletes in each team. Our Duo class is for elite and experienced athletes and we offer Pom, Jazz & Hip Hop disciplines for Duos. Their competitions dates are the same as the Pom teams, however they do have an extra training session each week, and will have a higher registration cost due to competing more than once at each event.
In 2015 we currently offer recreational tumbling class for both our competition athletes looking to improve their tumbling, and for non competitive athletes looking for a fun way to enjoy being part of our gym without the added cost and commitment of being a competitive athlete. It is also a great way for athletes looking at joining a competitive team for the next year to be part of the gym when joining mid season, as we are not able to add athletes to our competition program after April each year. As of 2016 we will also be offering recreational stunting classes. These classes will focus on the “lifting people in the air ” skills that competitions teams do.
Classes run by school term and each class goes for 1 hour, you are welcome to enrol into more than one class per week should you wish to perfect your skills quicker. We also offer private classes that go for 30 minutes and are one on one with your preferred coach. Group classes are based on age/ability. We offer classes for pre levels (new athletes) that are aged 3-6, and 7+. Once athletes have perfected handstands and cartwheels they are eligible to move to level 1. Once you reach level 1 it is no longer based on age but ability. This is what you can expect to learn level by level.
